OK, you’re serious about wanting to train to be a hypnotherapist in London and want to know what are the main things to consider when looking at the right course for you.
Here at Training Alliance Group’s TAG Academy, a good point at which to start is to define what exactly hypnotherapy is. You have probably seen stage hypnotists performing various ‘acts’ of showmanship on willing subjects. This gives the appearance that hypnosis is about somebody, the hypnotist, taking control of your mind. Well in reality, hypnosis is simply about narrowing your attention down to a highly focused state. You will recall times when you have been so consumed in a specific thought that other aspects of the world are momentarily placed beyond your awareness. This is the same in stage hypnosis, where your fixed concentration pushes away even your normal reservations and you simply carry out what you are focusing on, as long as it’s within your allowable code of behaviour. If you are asked to do something that goes outside your personal allowances, you are generally pulled away from your single-minded state and shocked-out of undertaking what is being suggested. In therapeutic hypnosis you are also similarly highly focused and the analytical conscious mind is ‘parked’, therefore you readily take on the positive therapeutic suggestions.
Another factor with clinical hypnotherapy is that you are not being asked to undertake extreme or trite scenarios, such as quacking like a duck. Thus only a light level of trance is needed. In other words, you just need to be in a relaxed absorbed state for it to be effective, similar to when you daydream or are engrossed in a TV programme. Therefore, the skill is not so much in getting people to relax but in knowing what you should say and how you should best say it.
So, if you are aspiring to train to be a hypnotherapist in London, and you do so with TAG Academy’s Department for Education NVQ Level 4 course, there will be a lot of content on learning how to create a state of hypnosis and focused relaxation, along with the opportunity to spend a considerable while practising this in class.
